| Natural Graphite Market Review |
LONDON, May 12 /PRNewswire/ --The global graphite industry had a difficult year in 2009, with many producers forced to scale down their operations or even close their mines in the 1st half of the year. With the credit crunch crimping the steel sector, graphite producers along with the rest of the refractories industry saw a slowdown in demand. Swiss graphite producer Timcal Ltd, for one, temporarily stopped operations at its mine in Lac-des-Iles, PQ, Canada in 1H 2009. In addition to the global recession, the industry was adversely impacted by unfavourable weather conditions and regulatory changes in China. For 2010, the outlook seems to be getting better, but the recovery is expected to proceed at a slow pace in the overall.
